Eve is an online only brand that has developed one mattress to fit all, with an ethos of keeping things simple, beautiful and affordable for every budget.

The Eve mattress comprises of three stacked layers: a high density base layer, a breathable cooling layer and a new generation memory foam layer to top it off. What’s different from the standard pure base foam is that Eve use an ultra resilient Reflex base foam that reacts to your movements, making the whole mattress reactive to your needs.

The memory layer is unlike other leading memory-foam mattresses where you get that sinking feeling, quite literally. The high-point elasticity has been developed to provide a responsive, soft cushioning without cocooning the contours of the body.

Simba Hybrid Mattress

The Simba Hybrid is one of the new breed of mattresses that pops out of a handy-sized box. It’s the way the world of mattress shopping is going, as it’s convenient and super easy – order it today, get it tomorrow and trial it for 100 nights! Once unleashed from its box, the mattress takes 3-hours to fully take shape, ready for a night’s sleep.

The patented springs make these mattresses unique, moving horizontally and vertically to fit the shape of your body and give you the best sleep. The Simbatex layer provides cool, gentle support, whilst the Visco memory foam moulds expertly to your body shape. It’s like a mattress that’s tailor-made for you.

Hovag Pocket Sprung Mattress

This is Ikea’s best-selling mattress by a mile! There’s no denying its unbelievable value, ideal for those on a budget. Take note first-time buyers and renters! One of the Ideal Home team was so impressed after testing it that they went and bought it. They describe it as the perfect balance between firm support and comfort.

You get support in all the right places thanks to the individually wrapped pocket springs that work independently and closely to follow the contours of your body. It’s designed to be slept on one side only, therefore it doesn’t require turning – although it’s fairly light. This is the best cheap mattress you can get.

Tempur Cloud 2Medium Mattress

The original masters of memory foam, the Tempur design model provides a top comfort layer made of a specially developed ‘extra Soft’ material for a feeling of instant relaxation. This unique fabric was designed to regulate temperature and humidity. Aptly named the cloud, the nature of this mouldable mattress material cocoons your body as it reacts to your body heat, making it ideal for relieving pressure points, such as hips and spine.

Working in perfect harmony with the lower support layers, once you settle your body weight is redistributed reducing pressure while you sleep. In addition to the comfort factor, this mattress also features a removable and washable cover, which is ideal if you are an allergy sufferer.

The Drysdale Pocket Sprung Mattress

This is the best-selling model from UK sleep experts Button & Sprung. Founder Adam Black tells us this is popular due to the unique IQ Spring system and six-layers of all-natural filling – with cotton, that’s strong, breathable and temperature-responsive.

The IQ system is something the Button & Sprung team developed exclusively. It provides an advanced level of comfort by offering ‘progressive support’. In other words, the more you push it the more it pushes back so everyone, regardless of their weight, gets exactly the right amount of support.

It seems proper where dogs do to start. Puppies. Beds for pups like beds for all dogs come in all shapes, sizes, and forms. It gives a feeling of security and safety. A donut bed or a nest sort bed is ideal as their raised borders and edges give your puppy something to cuddle against for that feeling of security.

Your dog deserves a good, comfortable bed, but there’s no single best bed for all dogs or all situations. After putting in more than 50 hours of research and testing 1beds, we think the Majestic Pet Products Suede Bagel Dog Bed is a great option for most pooches. But since not all dogs have the same needs and preferences, we’ve found the best beds across four different styles.

IKEA’s new Lurvig pet line includes a pet bed with pad and a cat/dog bed. We don’t think either is a great choice for your dog, as we explain in the competition section below.

The Majestic Pet Products Suede Bagel Dog Bed is a “cuddler”-style bed, a large padded mattress with raised bolsters around the perimeter that give your dog a place to lay its head—the bed looks like a big, fluffy dumpling. Its microsuede exterior feels as durable as the materials we encountered on beds costing several times as much. It’s also easy to machine-wash on the gentle cycle. You can put the versions for smaller dogs in the wash in one piece, and though you have to remove the stuffing to wash the larger sizes, we found that task (as well as to put the stuffing back in place afterward) easier to do than on most models we tested—the difficulty was a dealbreaker for many other beds.

If your dog needs a comfy spot to snooze outside or in a particularly warm environment, K&H’s Original Pet Cot is the best option. This model was both the sturdiest and the easiest to assemble of all the cot options we tested. It’s also made of better materials. The K&H cot’s mesh center has a canvas border that feels tougher and nicer than the material of the mesh-only cots we tested. This model is also a good pick if your dog tends to chew up beds, because it’s a littler harder for them to dig into.

For dogs that spend time in crates, MidWest’s QuietTime Deluxe Ombré Swirl is the comfiest crate liner we found. The fuzzy swirls look fragile, but they held up to both our scratch testing and wash testing. And the design is not just for looks: This bed is so comfy, our tester pup ended up spending more time in his crate just to lie on it. We also appreciate that it’s entirely machine-washable on the gentle cycle, so you have no fussy unstuffing and restuffing to deal with.

Pull Quote

If your dog chews, I recommend spending extra money on training over any product’s supposed claims of toughness.

Additionally, I spoke to pet professionals to get their take on what’s important when it comes to dog beds: Barb Lenahan of KConnection in Buffalo, New York, is a dog trainer with 1years of experience, and Dr. Danelle Capobianco is a veterinarian at City Creatures Animal Hospital, also in Buffalo.

Who this is for

A dog bed is for any doggo that needs a place to relax and get comfy. Different styles are better suited for different environments. A cuddler is appropriate for general hangouts, and for sleeping at night if you don’t allow your dog to share the people bed. A cot is great for warm environments (since they allow airflow to keep your pup cool) or outdoors. As the name implies, crate liners fit inside dog crates and provide padding while your furry friend is locked up in pet prison. And a premium bed is for when you want to treat your dog to something a bit nicer and are willing to pay for it.

Flaws but not dealbreakers

A dog bed in this price range won’t last forever, especially if you wash it regularly or your pup is tough on it. But you should expect to get at least a couple of years out of a good bed if your dog isn’t a bed chewer. We’ve seen some long-term use complaints in this vein regarding Majestic Pet’s bed, but not enough to be concerned. We’re going to keep testing it with Jerry the pit bull, and we will report any issues we find over time.

We’d prefer if those zippers were better hidden, either under a flap of material or otherwise. They’re located toward the underside of the bed, but fully exposed to a dog that may get bored and want to dig at them. If you know your dog is the kind that will do such a thing, this model likely isn’t the bed for you. If you’re not sure, keep an eye on Fido until you see how he treats it.

Some other beds we like have rubber grips on the bottom to prevent slipping. This one doesn’t, but the weight of your dog should keep it in place.

In our accident test, the chocolate left a light stain that appeared to be grease from the fat content, not the color of the chocolate itself. The fake-pee smell dissipated from the pad pretty quickly, though.

We tested three cot beds, and the best we found was K&H’s Original Pet Cot. Among our test group, it’s the easiest to assemble, it supports the most weight (even the smallest size is rated up to 150 pounds), and it’s the most sturdily built. It has a sturdy metal frame and rubber feet that prevent scratching and sliding, plus the cover combines breathable mesh with a heavy canvas border.

The Original Pet Cot comes in four sizes ranging from the 17-by-22-inch small to the 32-by-50-inch extra-large. They’re all inches tall, except for the extra-large version, which is inches.

The bed’s frame consists of four bars, two long and two short, that you easily feed through the respective edges of the canvas cover (the extra-large version is a little different, with a crossbar in the middle). This is a better design than what we saw in the other cots we tested, which used a clumsier two-piece construction for the long bars. Assembly requires no tools and takes less than a minute. Instead of having to screw anything together, you simply snap the K&H cot’s bars into place in right-angle corner supports. Taking the cot apart is also easy, although it requires some twisting that might not be very intuitive at first. Once we figured out the process, we were able to assemble the bed in less than a minute and break it down in the same amount of time.

The canvas around the cover’s edge feels like a sturdier material than the all-mesh covers on the other cots, and during our testing even the center stood up well to our plastic claws. The cot design is generally better for dogs that might try to tear their beds apart, because the taut cover is tougher to get teeth around, and this one is no exception.

K&H claims even the small version of its bed can support up to 150 pounds. In our rice-bag test, the Original Pet Cot held up better than the rest: While none of them sagged dramatically, this model showed zero sign of wear.

Much like the Majestic Pet bed, the K&H cot ended up with a greasy stain from the fake poop. We easily removed the solid component, however, and because the whole cot is washable, the ammonia smell came out without issue.

The Ombré Swirl is noticeably more comfortable than the other crate liners we tried. Instead of a thin pad that barely keeps your dog off the ground, it’s about inches tall and stuffed with a soft polyester fill, which popped right back into shape after our 24-hour rice-bag test. The bed’s top and sides are covered in tufts of polyester fashioned into a pattern that creates the swirl effect the name alludes to. This crate liner is far less delicate than it looks: It held up just fine to our claw tests and survived its trips through the wash, where we loaded it whole, foam and all. Rubber nubs on the underside are very effective at keeping the bed from sliding around. It’s a simple design, but it’s a great pick for any dog that has to spend time in a crate—and it won’t look out of place if you put it on the floor.

What to look forward to

Most of the complaints we’ve seen about dog beds is that they start to lump or come apart with daily use and regular washing. We’ll continue to test our picks over the long term to see how well they hold up, and we’ll update this guide with results as we find them.

Cuddler

The BarksBar Orthopedic Dog Bed comes mostly assembled; the bolsters are already in place, and the egg-crate pad is easy to fit into its compartment. We liked the way the bed looked, as well as the rubber dots for grip on its underside. Unfortunately, we found problems after washing and drying this bed, as dozens of those little dots fell off in the dryer (on the delicate cycle). At first we worried that we had left a silica-gel packet in and let it go through, but later we realized that the bed was falling apart. Additionally, restuffing the bolsters was a real pain, and we found getting the bed back to its original shape difficult.

PetFusion Ultimate Pet Bed & Lounge

There is nothing worse than the sight of an ailing and an uncomfortable dog. To ease your pooch’s joint pain, improve overall health, energy and to enhance mobility by reducing cold sores, you should consider getting this dog bed for large dogs. The PetFushion Ultimate Dog Bed intricately designed with premium components like a solid 4-inch memory foam and a recycled, green polyfill support. It is also the most comfortable dog bed for elderly dogs.

Recovery & Old Age

If your dog is arthritic or suffering from hip dysplasia, you have to ensure that it sleeps on the best dog bed aging dogs. A good with a supportive mattress cushions the dog’s joints from pressure letting the dog sleep through the night and recover quickly. With aging comes stiff and painful joints and other health issues. When there is nothing much you can do, a dog bed will help keep your dog more comfortable.

Insulation and Protection from the Harsh Weather

A dog bed offers excellent insulation from extreme weather. Since exposure to the elements makes your dog sick, lying on marble, tiled or even carpeted floor isn’t a good idea. The dog bed offers a warm spot that is elevated from the ground keeping your dog healthy.

For your Furniture’s Sake

Your dog will find its way to your bed or the couch whether it sleeps during the day or at night. Though you may enjoy the company, the dog will cause fast wearing off and tearing of furniture; whether made of wood, leather or fabric.

Bed’s Mattress Cover

But, to ensure that your dog’s mattress cover offers most, if not all of these benefits, then you should consider getting a waterproof mattress cover. Being waterproof, the cover will work well for muddy and wet canines, and it will also help you deal with bitches when the season comes by. You will also control drool if your dog drools excessively.

By acting as an impermeable barrier, the waterproof mattress cover prevents the bed from getting damp and smelly. It also creates an inert environment that is unfriendly to the growth of mold and mildew. So, if you have a dog prone to allergies, you should get a waterproof mattress cover.

Ease of Maintenance

When looking for a mattress cover, you should also consider the ease of cleaning. Waterproof covers easily spot cleaned using a damp cloth, cleaned in the washing machine or hosed. This is one of the most important feature of the best dog beds. If you choose a mattress cover made of fabric, you must machine wash it always. You will realize that the best fabrics used in making dog bed mattress covers are resistant to tearing by claws. This is because of the tight weaving which avoids a loop construction. For cost effectiveness, such tough fabrics are the best.

Bed Sizes and Shape

For small dogs like Chihuahuas, you will determine your pick by looking at the measurements of the bed and the design. If getting an oval or a round bed, the diameter should be a maximum of 3inches. For rectangular shaped beds, average dimensions of 16x2inches will work well. These dimensions will hold a dog weighing less than 30 pounds easily.

Medium Beds

The ideal medium sized bed has a diameter of 4inches for oval or round and 20x2inches for rectangular beds. In case you are wondering, a medium sized dog weighs between 30 and 4pounds. Medium-sized dogs include Australian Shepherds and French bulldogs.

Extra Large Beds

The extra-large beds are the perfect beds for the largest dogs like Great Danes, Black Russian Terriers or Bernese Mountain Dogs. The dimensions of these dogs are 28x4inches if rectangular and diameter of about 60 inches if circular or oval. These beds must be able to offer maximum support to dogs weighing more than 80 pounds.

How To Measure A Dog Bed

Keep in mind that to determine the perfect size of bed for the dog, you should measure the dog’s height up to the top of its shoulders. The length of the dog is the length running from the puppy’s chest to the base of the dog’s tail. You should give an allowance of inches around the height and length measurements for maximum comfort. And, if in doubt, always go for a larger bed and a rectangular rather than a rounded bed.

With dogs moving around in their sleep, taking on nesting and sprawling sleeping positions, you have to make sure that the bed offers excellent support to your dog’s shoulders and hips always.

Comfort and Support

The best dog beds come with mattresses designed to offer optimum comfort and support. The design of the bed or mattress is such that the layers don’t just support the weight of the dog but also distribute the weight of the dog. This is made possible by the presence of different foam layers.

For comfort as well as support and security, the best beds for dogs facilitate even heat distribution. As it is with the best orthopedic beds for elderly dogs, the bed aligns the body of the dog.

The most comfortable dog beds prevent overheating or extreme cold because they allow for free circulation of air; they are breathable. Breathability is an important feature in dog beds as it helps wick away sweat and smells. If you are buying an elevated dog bed for your furry friend, then you should consider the one with a cooling energy gel to keep the pup cool in hot conditions.

For support, you have to look at the fill of the bed. There are dog beds with high-quality polyfill, poly fiberfill or foam. There also are others with wood chips, clothes, or recycled bedding.

Cold-natured & Hairless Dogs

If your dog is always cold, you should know that a padded bed won’t work. The bed ideal for such a dog is one that allows nesting or burrowing into the bed. You should, therefore, consider slumber or nesting beds as they have a soft filling material. You can also try heating dog beds.

A dog with Thick and Long Fur

Though cute, furry dogs tend to overheat fast. Though they enjoy snuggling, the comfort lasts a short while, and it adds the amount of heat trapped by the fur. For the dog’s comfort, you should get a cot-style dog bed that is elevated from the ground allowing air circulation and cooling as your dog sleeps. The elevated bed is also easy to clean and perfect for dogs with incontinence.

Heated & Cooled Dog Bed

As the name implies, this bed features heat or cool. It is beneficial to older dogs with painful joints as it helps them find relief. The heat soothes and also reduces stiffness while the coolness offers relaxation.

You can also get one for your small dog or if you reside in a cold climatic zone.

Outdoor Cots

For decades, crate training has been the most popular technique for getting dogs to sleep in their crates and for the dog to do so willingly. Crate and kennel dog beds are available in different sizes that fit perfectly in the dog crates or dog houses keeping your dog from sleeping on the hard and cold surface.

In most cases, the kennel beds have water-resistant materials to keep the dogs dry and the kennel beds comfortable and special to the dogs.

Indestructible & Chewproof Dog Beds

Teething, boredom, and anxiety are some of the main reasons why dogs chew on their beddings. Even if you just purchased a cushy dog bed, if it is a chewer, it’s going to tear the bed down in minutes! The only solution is buying an indestructible dog bed.

The indestructible, chew-proof dog beds have strong but comfortable and supportive interior fill or foam memory mattress. On the outside, the cover is tough to withstand extreme conditions. The main materials for the cover include military-grade fabrics or metallic frames that hide away the structure. Though tough, the materials also prevent vomit and urine. They lack zippers and use industry-grade Velcro. They also have rounded corners.

How to Measure Your Dog

Now you know what size bed your German Shepherd can comfortably lie down on without any body parts hanging off.

Always chose a bed that can hold more than the current weight of your dog. This way you know for sure your GSD will be comfortable.

Does your dog sleep stretched out? Or curled up in a ball? Or like my boy Zè who likes to sleep on his back with his legs in the air.

For Small Dogs

It is hard to find the real cutesie beds mentioned above, scaled up for larger dogs—who mainly like to stretch out anyway. So, perhaps your best option is to choose one of the mattress-type beds and find one with a really cute cover or choose some suitable, washable fabric and make your own covers.

Cute Crate Mats

There are some really lovely designs in these and you can find them in just about any size. If all else fails and you absolutely cannot find exactly what you need, buy a plain mat and use one of the sweet fluffy throws available. It is important that these are easy to launder at home. There is vast choice available so you will be able to color-coordinate exactly how you want.

Nesting Dog Beds

Although smaller dogs seem to be the ones who ‘nest’ the most, suitable nesting pet beds are available in all sizes so if your big dog likes to curl up, you should be able to find just the right thing for him with a little research.

Our Jack Russell, Ellie, (pictured above) loves her plastic bed—Perla make these beds in three sizes and up to 7different colors so there is sure to be one that suits your decor and your dog! These beds are so easy to keep clean and hygienic and can be filled with the bedding of your choice (Perla also make cushion inserts to fit whichever size of bed you choose).

Round shapes are best for nesting and basically, you can choose a raised side bed and provide suitable blankets or bedding that your pet can arrange to his liking.

Alternatively, choose one of the nice, squishy, bean bag type which your dog will love to get right in the middle of, turn round a few times till he has got the ‘beans’ squished out to his liking and make himself a lovely cosy nest.

Cave and Tent Beds for Dogs

These are ideal for the dog that likes to hide away and feel safe inside. One of our terriers has made a den under one of the beds in the house because, like a tent bed, it is enclosed at the sides and covered.

A cave bed is usually only half covered at the back, giving the dog a warm envelope canopy to sleep under and an open area at the front.

There are also tunnel beds which allow access from either end with a completely covered top and sides. This type is often supplied with a built-in heater mat for comfort.

Cool Beds for Dogs

No, I don’t mean a bed that will raise your dog’s street cred! I mean a cooling dog bed for warmer climates and for thick coated or large/giant breeds who often find it difficult to regulate their body temperature to a comfortable level.

Heated Beds for Your Pet

In case you were worried about a runaway electricity bill, these are very low wattage and hardly use any ‘juice’ at all! Nor do you need to worry about your pet getting too hot as many will only heat up to your dog’s normal body temperature.

Waterproof Dog Beds

For older dogs, unfortunately those little accidents can become an increasingly frequent occurrence.

Luckily most of the mattress type beds can easily be fitted with a waterproof pad underneath the cover and it is not usually necessary to buy a completely waterproof bed for your pet.

Choose Removable Bed Covers

Choosing dog bed covers that are removable and washable will cut the work of keeping things clean, to a minimum! A spare set of dog bed covers purchased at the same time as the bed could prove to be a wise long term investment. One good tip I can give you is to be sure to choose covers with good long, strong zips. There is nothing more frustrating than trying to wrestle a cover onto a bed when if the zipper had just been six inches longer, the job would have been a breeze! Similarly having poor quality zips that break long before the fabric of the cover needs replacing is very annoying.

Treat Your Dog to a Cosy New Bed!

I hope you have enjoyed this article on choosing the perfect bed for your pet. We have covered everything from cute dog beds for small dogs to orthopedic dog beds for large and elderly dogs and several types in-between.

Self-warming dog beds use thermo-reflective liners. They are easily washable, simpler, do not use power sources and are more cost-effective. On the other side, they are less efficient.

Electric-heated beds can be cordless or can feature cord protectors for extra safety. They are more effective, but at the same time more expensive and at higher risk of failure. If purchasing electric-heated bed, always consider the thickness of the mattress. Over time the padding sinks and if it comes too close to the heating coil it might cause painful burns. Most of these beds utilize only a few watts of power, which will not raise your electricity bill. Some heated beds feature user-adjustable thermostats that offer accurately pinpointing your dog’s needs.

All in all, both self-warming and electricity-heated dog beds are ideal options for creating just the right temperature that comforts your dog.

Provides Extra Protection for Smaller Dogs

Even if your tiny Pomeranian has a thick second coat, he could still benefit from a heated dog bed. Heated dog beds are actually for year-round use. A heated dog bed can provide your dog a stronger sense of security and the right amount of heat that your pet needs. It also provides therapeutic benefits to newborn pups and injured pets. Dogs with less hair or shorter fur will truly benefit a heated dog bed the most.

For indoor use only

The Milliard Indoor/Outdoor Heated Pet Pad provides your furry family member a warm haven during long chilly nights. Its specially designed internal thermostat warms up your dog to a comfortable 38.8° Celsius. A six-inch chew-resistant PVC cord powers its heating system, preventing any damage or electric shock in case your dog might nibble it carelessly. Energy efficient, it only uses roughly 30W per hour.

Expensive

Certain chronic pains make sleeping a challenge. If you suffer from hip or shoulder pain purchasing a mattress with more pressure relief can help to relieve these pains. If your back bothers you from day to day, consider upgrading to a mattress that is more supportive to help make sure that your back doesn’t move into an uncomfortable position.

Combination

After getting a new memory foam bed it takes time for your body to become accustomed to the proper support and pressure relief that it provides. This adjustment period varies anywhere from two to four weeks. When purchasing a mattress, make sure that the company’s return policy allows you to fully become accustomed to your new mattress.

What to look for

With new advancements in production, memory foam can have a large, open-cell structure that allows for better airflow within the mattress, to let you always sleep cool. If you usually sleep warm, regardless of what you’re sleeping on, you should look for memory foam that has been processed to remove the foam’s cell membranes. This let’s memory foam breathe even more efficiently.

We offer 100 nights to try your mattress.

If you’re still unsure before purchasing, read our mattress reviews to see what others have experienced with our beds. Our reviews are verified through a third-party service so you know they’re real.

Serta Crate Mat for Dogs

Like many dog owners, Serta knows how important it is to give your furry friend a cozy place to rest their bones. However, strict financial constraints and budgets may not always allow for this. Thanks to the Serta Crate Mat for dogs, everyone can now afford a decent place for their canines to unwind after a long day chasing tail.

With soft edges and an orthopedic grade foam insert for support, your pet will absolutely love their Serta dog bed. The luxuriously soft sleeping surface offers an orthopedic foam base and ensures your loyal pup has a blissful slumber all through the night.

Dogs tend to make messes no matter where they are; this is why your Serta dog bed comes with an easy to remove zipper cover for washing.

Tips on Choosing the Perfect Dog Bed

If you own a small or middle-sized dog, choosing a large bed might leave the pet feeling unsafe and insecure. Make sure you get a bed that is just roomy enough to stretch out fully and includes bolsters since smaller pets tend to get more chilly. Nest dog beds and cuddlers are a popular choice here.

However, if your dog is big, heavy and sloppy, things become a little tougher for you. A big mutt needs something thick and strong to take all those pounds, but still open ended so as to stretch out those long limbs. Weaker dog beds will only flatten with time. Make sure you go for tough memory foam dog beds.

Competition

As always, Serta products seek to satisfy the needs of a broad range of customers. This is exactly why their dog beds allow for any type of use under the sun. Whether you want to pamper your dog or alleviate your pet’s joint pains, Serta has you covered. It was very difficult choosing the winner in our top list of leading Serta dog beds.

For one, the Serta Crate Mat for Dogs offered sublime features at a very competitive price. Thus, providing a cheap but practical solution to pet owners that may not have a lot of money to spend. It’s interesting to note that Serta understands the importance of providing your pets with a cozy place to rest their bones even with a strict small budget. Thanks to the Serta Crate Mat for dogs, everyone can now afford a decent place for their canines to unwind after a long day chasing tail.
